Southern roots and circumstance had kept me from the midwest for most of my life up to this point. Besides one day trip up to Detroit for a distant family member’s funeral, I had never set foot in the states that make up our country’s ceiling. I’d never seen a Great Lake. So what did I know about Cleveland before moving here? I expected rust and abandonment and frigid, snowy weather. Luckily, there is so much more. There is rust… and culture, endings… and new-builds. Of course there is winter. But there is grass (thank goodness!) and wonderful, inventive restaurants, and Midwestern Politeness (the Northern counterpart to SOHO: Southern Hospitality). I had to adjust to the constant road construction yet never mended roads, living completely independently in a true downtown, and snow days being everyday, meaning a work day, but this place feels like a home. So even if it’s not my last stop, it’s been a good one 🙂 I’m wearing a black cotton dress with somewhat of a checked pattern from H&M, paired with purple tights, beige calf -length boot socks, my favorite brown riding boots, and a fuchsia pea coat.
Always,
Allison
